OUR STORY

In 2020 we celebrated our 50th Anniversary. We are ranked as one of the Top 100 food service companies in Canada, Top 50 Western Franchises in Western Canada, and have been recognized in the past as one of the Top 25 companies to work for in British Columbia.

From our very beginnings our restaurants have had owners involved in each of their unique locations that have been adapted to their buildings and nearby surroundings. Andy, Lee and Peter Pulos first opened our Vancouver, BC location in March 1970 in Gastown in the Malkin Building which used to be a wholesale grocer. Our first newsprint menus had spaghetti entrees starting at $1.75!

When you own something, you have that extra level of care and commitment that translates in our restaurants to better food quality, service and atmosphere. Add that together with the all-inclusive low prices, and it was a successful model with new locations quickly opened between 1970 and 1974.

Winnipeg, MB was the first expansion after Gastown, opened on Bannatyne Avenue, and eventually relocated to The Forks Market. Soon afterwards Toronto, ON on the Esplanade, Edmonton AB Downtown on the Boardwalk and New Westminster, BC at the Quay were part of that first growth and continue to thrive today.

In 1972 Calgary, AB opened on 9th Avenue and is now on 36th street NE. Each of these locations is now owned by new entrepreneurs who are equally committed to their restaurants, staff and families and The Old Spaghetti Factory’s tradition of excellence.

In 1991 Peter Buckley was appointed President and together with a small group of partners, directs operations. We’ve continued to develop managers that, when ready to become owners, has allowed us to grow our recognized brand into other markets across Canada while always striving to raise our standards in food quality and service.

Over the next decade we opened locations in Whistler (1994), West Edmonton Mall (1999), Victoria (1999) and Banff (2000). Each store with an operating partner enjoying a career, becoming part of the community and creating memories and friendships that endure based upon shared meals and a commitment to our value and guest experience.

Today our “new” Old Spaghetti Factory in Richmond is soon to celebrate its 20th anniversary. And we proudly have been welcomed into Langley (2006), Abbotsford (2007), and then Kelowna (2012). Our most recent commitment to this successful model has been our Saskatoon location which opened in 2020. Again, with an operating partner eager to become a part of the community while sharing our recognized brand and timeless décor.

We have a long history made warm by the countless staff, managers, and owners who have identified with and contributed to a culture of honesty and integrity in our food, service and management – all while having fun along the way. We will continue to be grateful and honoured to welcome all our guests for many more years to come.
